Naturally, when a spray (liquid) hits a plant, there is high surface tension. This means some liquid will bead up and rolloff, some will sit there for a while but fail to adhere. Ultimately, you aren’t getting the most benefit out of the products you use.

In short, a surfactant (or wetting agent) reduces the surface tension between the plant and liquid by providing a binding layer in-between.

Surfactants have been used in the professional turf and golf industries for over 60 years. Only in recent years have they began to slowly creep their way into some homeowner’s lawn care arsenals.

This is, in part, due to some key developments over recent years that make these solutions more useable for people like us. The technology has improved rapidly (and we’re at the forefront of that).
